For the first time in its history, the National Treasury Employees Union is embarking on a publicity campaign to talk about the contributions federal workers make to American life today.

NTEU President Colleen Kelley unveiled the radio public service announcement and a website which will be the center of the campaign.

Actual federal workers were recruited to be the voice talent on the PSA's.

Kelley says the campaign, which will also include grassroots programs at NTEU chapter offices nationwide, is in part an effort to counteract the generally negative comments made about federal workers made by presidential and congressional candidates during political campaigns.

"For the sake of our country," she told a news conference on Wednesday, "a strong and a vital federal workforce that attracts the best and the brightest is what we need."

Kelley also told FederalNewsRadio that she hopes to be in touch with both presidential candidates to share her thoughts on presenting a positive image of federal workers during the general election campaign and avoiding common misconceptions about feds while on the campaign trail.
