Last October, Federal News Radio reported to you that the Office of Personnel Management had terminated its $290 million, 10-year contract with Hewitt Associates of Lincolnshire, Ill. to develop the recalculation engine for OPM’s “RetireEZ” retirement program. Now, Federal News Radio has learned from Hewitt that the two sides have settled their dispute, and OPM is rescinding its original termination of the contract.
In a written statement, Hewitt goes on to say that “the contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.” Hewitt has declined requests for an interview to clarify the statement. A spokesman for OPM, Mike Orenstein, confirms the contract termination, and says the agency is “assessing its options” regarding RetireEZ.
He declined to discuss the circumstances behind today’s news because of a confidentiality agreement by both sides.
