The Defense Department’s reliance on security contractors keeps growing.

An updated report from the Congressional Research Service finds that the number of security contractors employed by the Pentagon in Afghanistan is at an all-time high.

As of December 2010, there were just over 18,000 security contractors. That’s triple the number of contractors in June 2009.
