TSA deputy administrator retiring after 13 years with agency

Florida is a popular spot for retirement, but in the case of Transportation Security Administration Deputy Administrator Mark Hatfield, he’s headed to the Sunshine State for his next gig.

In an email to transportation colleagues, which Federal News Radio obtained, TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger congratulated Hatfield on his pending retirement from TSA at the end of November, and new role as the chief security officer for Miami International Airport.

“Mark has served honorably with TSA for 13 years, most recently as our deputy administrator and we will all miss his experience, his counsel and his presence,” Hatfield said. “But we look forward to working with him in his new capacity — something tells me we’ll still be in touch.”

Hatfield took over as deputy administrator in January 2015 but has served TSA in various roles since 2002.

He previously worked as the federal security director at Miami airport, as well as at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport. He also worked as TSA’s assistant administrator for the Office of Public Affairs.

Prior to joining TSA, Hatfield was vice president at Metiom, Inc,. managing director and market leader of Burson-Marsteller, and worked at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as senior director of corporate communications.
