Congress has imposed a deadline of 2014 for DoD to get at least a portion of its financial statements in audit-ready condition. But one of the lead advocates of the audit push on Capitol Hill acknowledges Congress itself has made that task a lot harder for the Pentagon, by keeping the federal government in a near-constant state of budget turmoil.
Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Tex.) is a certified public accountant who chaired a year-long series of hearings on DoD audit readiness for the House Armed Services Committee. He spoke with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu for this week’s On DoD.
On DoD focuses on the programs and policies that affect the Defense Department. Each week, Defense Reporter Jared Serbu speaks one-on-one and in depth with the people responsible for managing the inner workings of the federal government's largest department, and those who know it best.
