For the past two years, the Defense Department has been heightening its focus on the subject of professionalism: In 2014, then-secretary Chuck Hagel appointed DoD’s first-ever senior advisor for military professionalism in the wake of a handful of high-profile ethics scandals, including
instances of cheating on tests among the Air Force’s nuclear force.
Since then, both the Navy and Air Force have stood up their own centers for military professionalism, mirroring institutions the Army and Marine Corps have had in place for several years.
On this week’s edition of On DoD, Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu talks with Col. Jeffrey Smith (ret.), the director of the Air Force Profession of Arms Center of Excellence (PACE). The new center marked its first anniversary in March. They discuss how the Air Force defines professionalism and the progress the center has made over the past year.
