Senate committee mulls F-35

The Joint Strike Fighter is the Defense Department’s largest acquisition program and has seen its share of criticism for its perceived shortcomings.

The Senate Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Airland, which oversees issues related to the Army, Air Force and, Navy and Marine Corps tactical aviation programs, heard testimony this week on the F-35 Lightning II program.

Among those testifying were: Navy Vice Adm. David J. Venlet, the program executive officer of the F-35 program, Air Force Lt. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger, the military deputy of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, and Navy Vice Adm. Walter Skiller, the principal military deputy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition.
