Jason Matheny appointed as IARPA’s new director

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper appoints Jason Matheny as IARPA's next director, effective immediately.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper appointed Jason Matheny as the next director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, effective immediately.

In an Aug. 3 press release, Clapper said Matheny “brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” and that he is “confident” in Matheny’s abilities.

Matheny has been serving as the director of IARPA’s Office for Anticipating Surprise,  which develops new forecasting capability for national security threats.

He also worked at the Office of Incisive Analysis developing, managing and transitioning technologies for the Intelligence Community.

Matheny holds a Doctorate in Applied Economics and a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, another Masters in Business Administration from Duke University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago.
