A Federal Cloud Credential Exchange will offer more public access to federal services for less cost to agencies, according to the Postal Service. The FCCX will be a singular system that verifies the identity of federal consumers for multiple agencies, right now agencies use their own individual identity service providers and each pays separately for the service. The Postal Service is awarding a one-year, 15 million dollar contract to SecureKey Technologies to develop the Federal Cloud Credential Exchange. The Postal Service says people will soon access agency services using an identity provider like Pay Pal or VeriSign, once the consumer offers some additional information like an e-mail and phone number, the FCCX verifies their identity and authenticates it for other agencies. So far the program is still in a pilot stage.
