The Labor Department wants to take its GovBenefits portal to the cloud.
In a request for information issued Aug. 27, Labor asks vendors how they would use this technology to host four benefits Web sites: GovBenefits.gov, GovLoans.gov, BEST.SSA.gov and DisasterAssistance.gov.
“Services from the hosting provider will use cloud computing to reduce costs, scale capacity and provide dynamic allocation of computing resources,” Labor writes.
The agency is asking vendors to answer 28 questions. Responses are due by Sept. 11.
Among the questions Labor wants to information on include the pricing structure of Web hosting services, how the contractor would enable internal application tools, such as Web content management system, code repository system and Web analytics system, and the service’s security position.
Labor launched GovBenefits in April 2002 as the first initiative under President Bush’s e-government initiative.
