Microsoft to the Social Media rescue

Gov2Social is a social media directory designed to help state and local governments connect using Twitter and Facebook.

There’s plenty of opportunities and challenges when it comes to maximizing social media and government. That’s the reason behind a new Web site from Microsoft.

Gov2Social is a social media directory designed to help state and local governments connect using Twitter and Facebook, highlight what they are doing and enable citizens to track activities and announcements.

“We found a significant gap in how state and local governments and their citizens could connect online in a one-stop shop manner,” says Kristin Bockius, a state and local government social media marketing manager at Microsoft.

“With Gov2Social, state and local governments can share best practices, connect with peers and learn how to implement social networking services.”

Microsoft is counting on users to input their government’s social media usage on the website in order to populate it.

The new site — built on Windows Azure — is part of Microsoft’s Bright Side of Government initiative.
