Mariposa botnet. It’s the pervasive program that stole passwords for websites and financial institutions. The FBI says it stole computer users’ credit card and bank account information, launched denial of service attacks, and spread viruses in as many as 12 million computers. And, in part, the FBI credits the Mariposa Working Group — a public-private working group that worked with the FBI. Rodney Joffe is a senior vice president and senior technologist with Neustar, and helped to set up the Mariposa Working Group. We asked him how this cyber cloak-and-dagger came about.
