Missing laptops equal $2B lost each year

A study by Poneman Institute estimates that $2 billion are lost each in lost laptops.

Every year the public and private sectors lose $2 billion in missing laptops, according to the Poneman Institute.

A Poneman study found that on average, a single lost laptop will set an organization back close to $50,000. That figure includes the cost to replace the existing laptop, as well as the real costs — forensics, data breach, lost intellectual property costs, lost productivity and legal, consulting and regulatory expenses.
