Cryptologic museum offers enigmatic sights – literally

At least one U.S. museum is a rarity — an entire museum devoted to secrecy.

Patrick Weadon, the curator of the National Cryptologic Museum, joined the Federal Drive to discuss the museum’s enigmatic offerings.

He said some 50,00 thousand visitors a year travel to its location, a former motor lodge, on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Among its proudest possessions are not one, but forty World War II German encryption machines known as Enigmas — some of them not protected under glass cases. The museum also hosts the U.S. Navy device responsible for decrypting the German tool.
