Causey: Telework is great, except when…

Mike Causey outlines some of the hurdles to telework.

On days like today — with many D.C.-area feds taking advantage of unscheduled telework — it’s a great example of keeping the government moving forward while keeping people safe in their homes.

But Senior Correspondent Mike Causey says there is one major hurdle to telework — the loss of power.

Causey was among the 750,000 in the region who were without power due to the snowstorm.

“Many of those people without power would otherwise be teleworking,” Causey said in an interview with the DorobekINSIDER.

However, if government is closed and they have power, teleworkers must still work. Meanwhile, non-teleworkers don’t have to work.

Another hurdle to telework – a mentality among some federal workers that they should “risk life and limb” to go to work unless they get the day off, Causey said.
