Some federal buildings remain closed Tuesday

Federal News Radio staff reports

Days after Hurricane Irene blew through the East Coast, some federal buildings along the East Coast remain closed Tuesday.

The General Services Administration is listing the current building closures on its “Facilities Status” website, as it has done since Sunday. However, as the storm made its way up the coast passing through New York and into New England, the list has grown.

As of Tuesday morning, the closures are:

In Maryland:

  • H. Wiley Federal Building, College Park,
  • FRC Building 130 OFC, Silver Spring
  • 1415 Magellan Rd., Baltimore
  • 2709 Rolling Rd., Commerce Center, Catonsville

In New Jersey:

  • USDA Office, Woodbury

In New York:

  • Child Care Center – 26 Federal Plaza, New York
  • Child Care Center – Addabbo Building, Jamaica

In North Carolina:

  • USPS & Courthouse, New Bern

In Virginia:

  • 4300 Crossing Blvd., Prince George
  • Robinhood Rd., Norfolk
  • 21321 Hull St., Moseley
  • 3811 Corporate Rd., Petersburg
  • 1606 Santa Rosa Rd., Richmond
  • Portsmouth Federal Building, Portsmouth

GSA said it will update its list as buildings re-open, however, it also said individual agencies would decide whether employees should report to work.

Meanwhile, after giving federal employees in the D.C. area the go-ahead to take unscheduled leave or telework on Monday, the Office of Personnel Management announced the federal government would be open and operating as normal Tuesday.
