The pirate problem around the world has come center stage in the United States with the capture of the Maersk Alabama. While the FBI continues negotiation with the pirates holding the ship’s captain hostage, the Navy is moving warships to the area, and ships held by the pirates are coming to back up the hostage takers. Vice Admiral John Morgan, a 36-year Navy veteran and former key advisor to Admiral Mike Mullen, told me what is going on in the region, the genesis of the pirate problem, and solutions to make sure it doesn’t continue.
