USGS’ Hsieh helped stop Gulf Coast oil spill

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last summer finally ended when the work of Dr. Paul Hsieh, a research hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, convinced federal officials that the containment cap on the ruptured well was working. That work has made Dr. Hsieh a Service to America Medal finalist in the Science and Environment category.
