Lou CrenshawAerospace and Defense practice leader, Grant Thornton

Companies are figuring out how to deal with the “new normal” in the Pentagon’s budget.

In an analysis on Defense Industry Daily, Lou Crenshaw, a retired Navy vice admiral, who heads the aerospace and defense practice at Grant Thornton, pointed to five defense trends that will impact contractors in the future. They are:

  • A “laser focus” on cost reductions at DoD
  • DoD shifting risk to contractors
  • A crackdown on contractors’ deficient business systems by the Defense Contract Audit Agency and the Defense Contract Management Agency
  • Increased M&A activity
  • New regulations, such as those requiring contractors to ensure no counterfeit parts are sued in electronic parts supplied to DoD
