NASA center in Va may cut contractor work force
The number of contractors working at NASA's Langley Research Center could shrink as the result of automatic spending cuts.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – The number of contractors working at NASA’s Langley Research Center could shrink as the result of automatic spending cuts.
The Hampton facility has about 1,900 civil servants and 1,700 contract workers.
Center Director Lesa Roe told employees last week that she’s expecting Langley’s management and operations budget to shrink by more than $17 million as a result of the cuts that took effect March 1. The center’s overall management and operations budget is $228 million. She says the center has already imposed restrictions on monetary awards and travel, but that reductions to the contractor workforce could be necessary.
It wasn’t immediately clear Monday when a decision on the contractor workforce would be made.
