Federal agencies are spending money to collect information they might already have. The Interior Department says agencies spend billions of dollars every year on geospatial data, but duplicative spending is common every year. David Powner, director of Information Technology Issues at the Government Accountability Office, testified about the duplication to the House Natural Resources subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources.
