In President Donald Trump’s budget blueprint for fiscal 2018, he proposed to eliminate funding for 19 small, independent agencies. Though the budget makes it clear funding for these agencies would disappear, it does not detail whether their functions would dissolve entirely or get absorbed into other departments.
The budget blueprint does not offer an explanation for the cut, but a few of the 19 organizations have been on the chopping block before in previous government reorganization proposals and suggestions.
Here’s a breakdown of what each of the 19 agencies do, how much they funding they received from Congress in fiscal 2016 and now under the current continuing resolution and how many full time people they employ. The numbers below show the most recently available data, in most cases from 2016 or 2015.
