AFGE rallies in support of EPA employees

The Environmental Protection Agency faces a 31 percent cut to its budget, a number that agency advocates say will harm the workforce and public health.

The Environmental Protection Agency stands to lose more than $2 billion in the President’s proposed fiscal 2018 budget.

The White House says the cuts will “ease the burden of unnecessary federal regulations that impose significant costs for workers and consumers without justifiable environmental benefits.”

But EPA supporters, including lawmakers and members of the American Federation of Government Employees, say the cuts will not only reduce jobs and hurt employee morale, but have a long-lasting impact on human and environmental health.

On March 15, AFGE members and EPA employees joined congressional members and environmental activists at a rally outside the EPA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
