Obama names new DoD appointees

President Barack Obama announced new nominees for two positions and nominated three holdovers from the Bush administration to keep their positions at the Department of Defense.

Mike Donley will remain the Secretary of the Air Force. He has held the position since October 2007.

Ret. Lt. Gen. James R. Clapper (USAF) will also remain the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Clapper was appointed to the position in January 2007.


Jim Miller has been selected as nominee for Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Policy. Miller is currently the senior vice president and director of studies at the Center for a New American Security.

Obama has also picked Lt. Gen. Wallace “Chip” Gregson Jr. as his nominee for Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, and Michael G. Vickers to remain in his position as Assistant Secretary for Defense for Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict and Interdependent Capabilities.
