Botnets are for sale to cybercriminals

You’ve heard of software as a service and infrastructure as a service. Well, how about malware as a service? It’s true! Botnet attacks have moved to the cloud as a service for sale. That’s according to the security firm Damballa, which tracks botnet activity. The company states in its blog, that since March, a budding, China-based criminal group commenced operations. It registered and configured a bundle of domain names and hosts that would become the backbone of a new, commercial distributed denial-of-service attack service. That takes botnet attacks, a common cyber threat, to new levels of organization, according to Damballa. The new service is thought to be infecting 10,000 victims a day.
