Walter Reed heading for mixed-use development

We’re learning more about the plans for Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The team that’s transforming Walter Reed says that the campus’ historic buildings can be mixed with new construction and open space to create a mixed-use neighborhood in Northwest. The Washington Business Journal reports that the District will acquire about half of Walter Reed’s property in 2012 once the center is consolidated with National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. The General Services Administration will take more than 32 acres, and the State Department will take eighteen. The plan was adopted by the Walter Reed Local Redevelopment Authority on October sixth.
