DHS underwrites cyber security testbed

The Department of Homeland Security is going to underwrite a cyber security testbed at the University of Southern California’s Information Sciences Institute. The 5-year $16 million project is called DETECT. The lab provides researchers from around the world with a controlled and safe environment for scientific research. It also supports classroom exercises in computer security for nearly 400 students at 10 universities and colleges.

The new DETECT project features a cyber-research community. The idea is to expand the outreach to cyber researchers to diversify the research resources available to academia, industry and government.
