Defense reaches out to employers

Ten years of war have taken a toll on the National Guard and Reserves. Now the Defense Department wants to find out about the toll Iraq and Afghanistan have taken on the employers of those called up. To find out, DOD will survey 80,000 employers over the next two months. Dennis McCarthy is assistant secretary of Defense for reserve affairs. He says this will be the first survey of employers. Earlier surveys have focused on the effects of war on the warfighters themselves.
