Army transition plan in the works

The general taking over the Army says it will take a couple of months, but he will soon explain how the force must transform itself after a decade at war. General Martin Dempsey says the all-volunteer Army must be ready for new adversaries in 2020 and beyond. He says the Army is in transition and must evolve and hone new expertise. The more-than-one-million-strong ground force is strained after 10 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dempsey took over as chief of staff for the Army after General George Casey retired. General Casey held the top job for four years and has more than four decades in the service.
