Navy to cut 3,000 mid-career Sailors from ranks

Three thousand mid-career Sailors will be cut from the Navy’s ranks. Stars and Stripes reports guidance released yesterday by the the Navy Personnel Command says 16,000 E-4 through E-8 Sailors in 31 different career ratings will be reviewed by the end of the year. Sailors chosen for separation must leave the Navy by the end of June 2012, or the end of September 2012. According to the guidance, the Navy is making it easier for Sailors in overmanned fields to change jobs and remain in the active-duty Navy. The Navy says the cuts are necessary due to record retention rates.

Sailors can find out if they are being reviewed after May 16 by logging on to Navy Knowledge Online and clicking on Navy Advancement Center.
