Navy: 25 percent of assault hotline calls improperly handled

Navy auditors say that one in four test calls to sexual assault hotlines failed or were improperly handled, Navy Times reports.

Most of the failures came from a lack of voicemail, failing to return phone calls in a timely manner and not properly transferring callers to a sex-assault advocate. Auditors tested both Navy and Marine hotlines.

Despite the 25 percent failure rate, the report actually indicates improvement from the 44 percent failure rate noted in a January audit.
