Air Force centralizes service functions in Texas

The Air Force is centralizing service functions in San Antonio, Texas. Fitness, lodging, Air Force Clubs and food programs have moved there this month. The Air Force is moving other units that oversee community and family services in stages throughout the summer.

Air Force leaders said the centralization would make it easier for service members to know where to go for help, and it would also help eliminate duplication. The consolidation is part of an effort to save $100 billion over five years.

The Air Force also is trying to cut its workforce through buyouts. The third round starts tomorrow.
