A national cyber defense championship is ramping up in Texas. Teams from 10 universities around the country will meet in San Antonio next week to compete at the seventh annual National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.

At stake are not only bragging rights, but lucrative job offers from private companies, government agencies and the Defense Department.

The teams are tasked with keeping baseline services on a business website up and running while fending off attacks from a red team of government, academic and industry hackers. The challenges last two days and teams are scored on their ability to maintain services and carry out routine tasks on the network while keeping the hackers out.
