After years of cajoling by Congress, the Defense Department has finally begun a full audit of its financial statements. But lawmakers know the outcome of the first year’s audit won’t be pretty, and it’s still unclear how long it will be before DoD can earn a clean opinion. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), former chairman of the House Armed Services panel on Defense financial management and a CPA, talked with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu on Federal Drive with Tom Temin about the challenges the department still faces.
