The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tomorrow plans to launch the latest in a series of geosynchronous weather satellites. They’re known as GOES, or Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite. The new one, GOES-17, together with its predecessor launched in 2016, will give NOAA a high resolution view of the entire United States and most of the Western Hemisphere.  Jim Yoe, chief administrative officer of the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation and NOAA scientist, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin to explain the main job of these satellites.
