James Rowley: Pompeo’s confirmation to lead State Dept. no sure thing

The former CIA director won last-minute support from two Democrats as opponents still skeptical of his ability to manage U.S.-foreign relations.

President Donald Trump’s nominee to be secretary of state won approval from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — by the slimmest of margins — Monday night, just hours after it looked as though the panel would decline to endorse him. Mike Pompeo’s nomination now heads to the Senate floor for a vote later this week.

For now, his confirmation looks more likely than not, but it is by no means a sure thing. James Rowley, a congressional reporter with Bloomberg Government, spoke with Federal Drive with Tom Temin about Pompeo’s prospects, and some of the concerns Senators still have about his nomination.
