Marine memorial gets new inscriptions to honor Middle East conflicts

In today's Federal Newscast, new inscriptions on the Marine Memorial honor Marines who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps War Memorial gets two new inscriptions. As part of a $5 million renovation project, engravings saying “Iraq” and “Afghanistan” have been added to honor the nearly 1,500 Marines who have died in those two conflicts. The project, which also includes cleaning and waxing the memorial, is expected to be completed by fall 2018. The renovation was made possible by a donation from businessman and philanthropist David M. Rubenstein. (Department of the Interior)

American Federation of Government Employees President J David Cox asks travelers to be mindful of the Transportation Security Administration’s 42,000 employees working to ease the stampede of travelers this season. Cox points out wait times have gone down and there have been no aircraft-related terrorism incidents since federal employees took over passenger screening after 9/11.
