March 13, 2017 – Hosts, Bob Leins and Tammy Flanagan, Senior Benefits Director at NITP, welcome Kathy Lavinder, founder of Security & Investigative Placement Consultants, a niche executive search firm, to speak about how the private sector job hunt is much different than the Federal job hunt.

People leaving the government to move to the private sector, or those already out and looking for a new job typically “network” their way into something new. The word of mouth, friend of a friend approach.

The way employers approach hiring has changed.  Many are open to referrals but most also want to “see who else is out there.” Companies put job openings on their websites, of course, but how applications are received and processed has changed. Kathy will fill us in on the new world of Applicant Tracking Systems and how LinkedIn has replaced Monster, Hot Jobs and CareerBuilder as the go-to place to find a job.
