October 9, 2017 – Host Bob Leins and co-host John Elliott welcome Lester Austin, Retired Senior Public Affairs Specialist with the Social Security Administration, to talk about where Social Security has been, where it is now, and where it’s going in the future.

Social security is sometimes an overwhelming topic for federal employees. Many of them tackle it head-on but far too many seem to avoid thinking about it!

The questions we hear most often are:

  • When should I claim my SSA benefit?
  • I understand that it may be possible to file a restricted application. What is a “restricted application” and what are the requirements to file a “restricted application?”
  • If I am receiving a Social Security benefit based on a former spouse’s earnings, can I delay my own benefit until 70 years of age?
  • Does the FERS annuity supplement affect my Social Security benefit and how is it taxed?
  • Please explain the dual entitlement rule.

For questions or comments, email us in advance at or call 202-465-3080 this coming Monday.  Program begins at 10:05 ET and questions are accepted between 10:20 AM and 10:55 AM.
