DoD awards $18M for battlefield energy reduction programs

One objective of the program is to reach new contractors, primarily small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The Department of Defense announced today the release of $18 million to fund six programs aimed at reducing the energy demand of future expeditionary outposts.

DoD says developing innovative energy solutions is crucial to reducing dependency on fossil fuels, but fuel has also become an operational hazard. Supply convoys have become a frequent target.

One objective of the program is to reach new contractors, primarily small businesses and entrepreneurs. An information session is set for March. The registration deadline is Feb. 29.
