Lombardi named to GovCon’s Hall of Fame

Paul V. Lombardi will be inducted Nov. 5 into the Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards' Hall of Fame.

Paul V. Lombardi will be inducted Nov. 5 into the Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards’ Hall of Fame. The awards, which are presented by airfax County Chamber of Commerce and Professional Services Council, honor the leadership, innovation and commitment to excellence of the people and businesses in the region’s government contracting community.

Lombardi is a leader in the government contracting industry who has had a storied career. Lombardi began his career in the public sector and held numerous executive positions in the department of Energy and Navy and was later employed at PRC Inc. where he served in a variety of executive management positions.

Lombardi then joined DynCorp in 1992 as president of DynCorp’s Government Services Group. During Lombardi’s tenure in this position, revenue from defense business increased despite severe budget cuts within the Department of Defense. He was later elected executive vice president in 1994 and was responsible for the successful management and profitable operation of all of DynCorp’s federal government business.

Lombardi was appointed president and chief executive officer of DynCorp in 1997. During his tenure, DynCorp enjoyed steady predictable growth, becoming a premiere information technology and outsourcing solutions company. Revenue doubled to more than $2.4 billion annually and the company achieved a firm contract backlog of nearly $8 billion in 2003. Additionally, Lombardi engineered and led the merger of DynCorp with Computer Sciences Corporation.

In March 2003, he formed INpower, a sole proprietorship concentrating on consulting to CEO’s and BOD’s. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of NCI, Inc. where he chairs the Compensation Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Board of CGI Federal, Inc. He is an active adviser to a number of technology firms in the federal sector including SGT.

Throughout his career, Lombardi has been an active member of numerous professional societies. He remains on the Executive Committee of the Board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. He is the previous past chairman of the Professional Services Council. He has also been recognized numerous times for his many business accomplishments, including the 1999 “CEO of the Year” award from The George Washington University as well as awards from Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News.

Lombardi also takes an active role in the community serving on the Commonwealth of Virginia Governor’s Commission of Information Technology and George Mason University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Board.

Lombardi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the New York State Maritime College and studied business at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
