Todd Simpson, the chief information officer of the Food and Drug Administration in the Department of Health and Human Services, joined Federal News Radio for a free online chat.

Simpson took part in the online chat as part of his appearance on Federal News Radio’s Ask the CIO program on 1500 AM in the Washington metro area and online everywhere.

Simpson discussed how the FDA is taking advantage of a commercial cloud computing infrastructure to improve its mission effectiveness. He discussed the benefits FDA is receiving for moving its IT infrastructure to the cloud and his future plans for how the cloud will support the agency’s IT strategic goals.

GUEST BIOGRAPHY: 

Todd Simpson has been the Food and Drug Administration’s CIO since May 2015.  He is responsible for providing information technology services and support to approximately 20,000 federal personnel and contractors that comprise the FDA community throughout the continental United States and internationally. Simpson has more than 24 years of IT leadership and management experience from the private sector and in the federal government. He has served as CIO of the Department of Justice Criminal Division and as Associate Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Additionally, Simpson worked in the IT field as a systems analyst, senior technical adviser, IT manager and CIO in the private sector for 18 years. He began his career in the U.S. Air Force serving three years active duty and three years active reserve.
