February Community Spotlight

The Federal News Radio Community Spotlight is Casey Cares

At Casey Cares, we know how difficult life can be for families with critically ill children. We help keep families’ spirits high by arranging programming – whether it’s a simple movie night and a fresh pair of pajamas or attending a major sporting event, such as a Nationals or Wizards game, Casey Cares makes life a lot better by adding a personal touch throughout the year and making lasting memories for families in seven states and Washington, D.C.

We serve more than a 1,000 families a year and provide ongoing support from the moment a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, throughout their treatment and even beyond. There is a science to what we do as medical research has proven that emotional health and the well-being of families undergoing such trauma, pain and stress is almost as essential to a child’s recovery as chemo and radiation treatments. Research has shown that our programs not only bring much-needed joy to our kids and their families, but benefits their overall health and often helps keep families together through the most difficult hardships and challenges they might ever face.

Founded in 2000 by Casey Baynes, the Casey Cares Foundation prides itself on working with the entire family, especially siblings of children diagnosed with critically ill kids, and helping these families enjoy quality family time together.
