Cybersecurity Update – Tune in weekdays at 30 minutes past the hour for the latest cybersecurity news on The Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris (6-10 a.m.) and DorobekInsider with Chris Dorobek (3-5 p.m.). posted a blog about how consumers can take proactive steps to protect themselves, in addition to what private companies do. Some of his suggestions include using encryption, using anti-virus and spyware software and never assuming that public hot spots are secure.

The federal government spends nearly $100 billion a year in network-centric operations and improved cyber defense, according to some estimates — and that doesn’t include cyber-spending in the intelligence community. A new report, Cyber In-Security: Strengthening the Federal Cybersecurity Workforce, says we need a more comprehensive cyber policy and strategy.
