Australian feds angry over new IT policy

ZD Net reports that a new policy states feds must get permission to download apps.

The Australian government is taking some heat from federal employees who are angry over the government’s new IT policy that calls for government administrators to have direct control over computers.

Security magazine ZD-Net says that many government IT departments worldwide restrict users from installing their own applications and customizations without permission.

Although many employees have voiced dislike of the restrictions government IT mangers argue that they allow sensitive government information to be held securely and for staff to focus on work during business hours.
