BAE wins $300M contract to modernize DIA computer workstations

Workers at the Defense Intelligence Agency will soon have a new virtualized desktop infrastructure to play with, according to Business Wire.

BAE Systems said it received a $300 million contract to modernize the trusted computer workstations for the agency’s Defense Intelligence Information System.

The company will create a worldwide virtualized desktop infrastructure they promise will have all the latest bells and whistles. Software for the new systems won’t be kept on individual desktops. Complex 3D graphics, computational software tools, and software — like streaming video — will be accessed through a server.

BAE said the upgraded workstations will require less maintenance and offer greater control over things like software licenses, versions and updates.
