During a televised question-and-answer session with editors from the Associated Press, President Richard Nixon defended himself from the ongoing Watergate investigation.
“People have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I’m not a crook. I’ve earned everything I’ve got,” Nixon said in his now-infamous speech.
The president later resigned on Aug. 8, 1974.
