A panel advising the Federal Communication Commission on technological innovation says the federal government should use its own land and buildings to advance the cause of national broadband deployment.

The FCC’s Technical Advisory Council is made up of dozens of representatives of the IT and telecom industries. They made eight recommendations to the commission today. Among them is the suggestion that the federal government streamline the process of approving rights of way and tower locations for broadband infrastructure.

Tom Wheeler, the council’s chairman, says the FCC should ask the White House for an executive order along those lines.
